Yuu Kanda's purpose in life is to find a person that he refers to as "that someone"; which will be hard but until then, he will never allow himself to die. Kanda seems to be able to withstand the blood of Akuma, most likely due to the tattoo above his heart. The hourglass and flower are said to be his only personal possessions. Yuu was grudgingly partnered with Allen in Allen's first mission.
